TEMPLE MANAGEMENT 'S CURRENT CONTRACT PROPOSAL IS UNACCEPTABLE
___________________________________________________________

The “raise” that Temple’s management is offering would not go to a sizable proportion of the bargaining unit. It would cause most to fall even further behind inflation.

Temple management :

  • Wants to increase health costs unilaterally at any time.
  • Continues to regard 1/3 of our bargaining unit (nontenure-track faculty) as second-class and second-rate citizens, without need for job security or parity on benefits.
  • Refuses to provide true sabbaticals, even though it wants Temple to be considered a research university.
  • Offers inappropriate comparisons for salary purposes by comparing us to nonresearch institutions .
  • Wants to continue to hire new faculty at the lowest possible salary. Does not want to increase salary minimums, although these are needed to attract qualified faculty and combat decreasing purchasing power .
  • Does not want to improve the pay of those whose salaries have fallen significantly behind their less senior colleagues.
  • Is unwilling to share relevant data and commit to a joint committee to address problems of diversity.

Instead of concentrating on meaningful negotiations, Temple management has chosen to circumvent the negotiating process, instead publishing their spin, replete with inaccurate, misleading and confusing information.

TAUP believes that if you are doing your job you should not be falling further behind in the cost of living.
