COPE

COPE

TAUP’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) has primary responsibility to help elect candidates who support the union’s goals and positions, particularly in the areas of education, labor, and human rights, regardless of party affiliation. We also make funding recommendations relating to state and city political candidates to our union’s Executive Committee.

We do this by:

  • Organizing and coordinating political events/get out the vote activities on behalf of the union’s members
  • Conducting research into relevant political issues impacting the union and university
  • Coordinating with political action elements of other labor unions and federations
  • Liaising with relevant elected officials on TAUP/labor issues
  • Meeting with/interviewing candidates for political endorsement
  • Soliciting COPE contributions from non-contributing members

Join COPE! If you are interested in political organizing and working with other union members from both TAUP and beyond, consider joining COPE. We are actively looking to expand the membership of COPE to reflect the diversity of members and their experiences, and better represent the union. Email cope@taup.org to join or to ask any questions about the committee.
