TAUP

Membership, Dues Deduction and COPE Authorization

Welcome to the Temple Association of University Professionals

Let’s bring you into our union of faculty, librarians, and academic professionals. Signing up takes just a few minutes.

On this page, we’ll collect some basic information, explain the benefits of membership and the membership dues. You will also have the option to support the Union’s Committee on Political Education

What are dues?

Dues are the backbone of our union and allow us to have a strong organizing and professional support staff as well as legal counsel. Changes in the dues are approved by the union’s elected executive committee, and are then ratified by members. Dues for all TAUP bargaining unit members (adjuncts, librarians, academic professionals, and full-time faculty) are calculated as 1.15% of your pay monthly.

Examples

If you receive $1,000 monthly compensation, your union dues would be about $11.50 per month. (Adjuncts pay dues only when teaching.) If you earn $4,000 per month, your dues would be approximately $46 per month. If you earn $6,000 per month, your dues would be approximately $69 per month.

CURRENT DUES

Dues payments are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes, but a portion thereof may be deductible as a miscellaneous itemized deduction. The dues amount may change if authorized according to the requirements of the local, state or national constitutions.  If that happens, in accordance with the dues deduction authorization below, I authorize Temple to automatically adjust the dues to reflect the new rates provided under the relevant constitution.

1.15% of your gross salary per-pay period (TAUP)

MEMBERSHIP COMMITMENT

By signing below I hereby apply for and voluntarily accept membership in the Temple Association of University Professionals (TAUP), AFT-PA, AFT.  I agree to abide by TAUP’s Constitution and Bylaws.  My membership in the union shall be continuous unless I notify the TAUP office (office@taup.org) in writing that I intend to resign.  I understand that signing this Commitment is voluntary and is not a condition of employment and that I have the legal right to refuse to sign this Commitment without suffering any reprisal. (OPTIONAL)  COMMITTEE ON POLITICAL EDUCATION CONTRIBUTION - COPE

COPE is a fund you may choose to voluntarily contribute to.  Contributions are not required as a condition of membership, or as a condition of employment.  However, your contribution allows us to support political candidates who are committed to quality education and supportive of workers and organized labor.

I hereby authorize Temple to deduct from my monthly paycheck and remit to the TAUP a voluntary monthly contribution to the TAUP COPE FUND.  I make this contribution pursuant to the provisions of Article VIII of the TAUP Bylaws.  This voluntary contribution shall continue at the same monthly amount unless I increase, decrease, or revoke this authorization.  I understand that I may revoke this authorization at any time by notifying the TAUP in writing of my desire to do so.

The amount to be withheld shall be the whole dollar amount per month of $.  (This must be a whole dollar amount, i.e., $3.00, $5.00, $15.00, etc.)  I understand that the deductions will be made from every regular paycheck.  I sign this authorization freely and voluntarily and not out of any fear of reprisal, and I understand that I will not be favored or disadvantaged because I exercise this right. I understand this money will be used for political contributions and expenditures in connection with state, and local elections.  Contributions to the Union’s Committee on Political Education are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal Income Tax purposes and can be made only by U.S. Citizens or Legal Permanent Residents.
